The Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga stated that a significant growth in the tourism sector is expected in the next three months and from next year around 5,000 tourists are expected to visit Sri Lanka daily.

The Minister of Tourism further stated that the tourism industry in Sri Lanka, which had collapsed due to the Covid epidemic, is gradually recovering and nearly 45,000 tourists have visited the country in the recent past.

The government has taken steps in the past to provide various relief measures to those in the tourism industry who have been affected by Covid, he said.

The Minister noted that the government took measures to provide a loan relief package, relief for payment of electricity and water bills, relief for payment of lease and an allowance of Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 20,000 each for registered drivers and guides of the Tourism Development Authority to those engaged in the tourism sector.
