Sri Lanka welcomes 44,294 tourists in November, led by India

Sri Lanka has welcomed 44,294 tourists in November 2021, up from zero a year earlier due to Coronavirus, with 32 percent or 14,236 coming from India, data from the tourist promotion office showed.

Up to November 2021, 104,989 tourists had come in total, compared to 507,311 in 2020, who came before airports closed in March.

India had so generated 89,000 out of 104,000 tourists in 2021.

UK generated 3,770 visitors or 8.5 percent of the total, Russia 3,520 or 7.9 percent, Germany 2,667 or 6 percent and France 1,447.

European arrivals may see a setback with the resurgence of Covid in those areas, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority said.

Pakistan generated 2,612 visitors and Maldives 1,464.

Canada generated 1,161 visitors and the US, 1,178 which may have been to visit family and friends, the report said.

China generated 201 visitors bringing in a total of 2,159 up to November and Australia 940.

Indonesia generated 806 visitors.
