Sept 20, Colombo: The income earned from the tourism industry in the first eight months of this year has reached $ 900 million (Rs. 332 billion).

According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the income earned from the tourism industry in August alone is 67.9 million dollars (Rs. 25,050 million) and the income earned in the previous seven months is 825 million dollars (Rs. 304,420 million).

Accordingly, Sri Lanka’s income from the tourism industry in the first eight months of this year is 892.8 million dollars. Compared to last year’s income, the tourism industry has been able to increase this year’s income due to the increase in the number of foreign tourists.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, which suffered a massive collapse in the last three years, has shown some growth today. The fact that the Sri Lankan authorities have taken steps to bring more tourists to Sri Lanka has been appreciated by various parties.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority says that 47,293 foreign tourists visited Sri Lanka last July, but this figure decreased in August to 37,760 foreign tourist arrivals.

As of 31st August 2022, 496,430 international tourists had visited Sri Lanka for this year.

After the massive social unrest last July, the situation in the country has significantly eased and a number of European countries have taken steps to relax the travel advisories issued for Sri Lanka a few weeks ago.
