India occupied the top spot as the best source market for the tourism segment of Sri Lanka for the month of April this year. India reclaimed the top place after six months, with nearly 20,000 Indian tourists entering in Sri Lanka last month.

As per the figures obtained from Sri Lanka’s Tourism Authority, 19,915 Indians visited the island nation in
April when compared to 14,656 Russian tourist entrances. Russians continued to be the highest
incoming market right from October 2022 to March 2023.

Tourist influxes from India last year were 1.23 lakhs, grabbing a share of 17.1 per cent. In April, the
entrances surpassed 100,000 for the fourth successive time, taking the overall entrances in the first four
months to more than 4.4 lakhs.

In 2022, Sri Lanka attained approximately 7.2 lakh tourist entrances. Last month, Priantha Fernando, the
Chairman of the SLTDA said that the objective for tourist entrances in Sri Lanka will be reviewed to 20
lakhs from the primary estimations of 15 lakhs.
